GYRO NIGHTS IN ABERDEEN |

@ PEACOCK VISUAL ARTS |

The Night of Gyros is an ancient festival of the island Papa Westray (Papay) in Orkney, which celebrated on the first full moon of February. About 100 years ago the tradition was abandoned. Gyro is a mythical child eating giantess also known as Gygr, Gryla, Grylur, Grøleks, or Skeklers in other Nordic countries' folklore
Since 2011 The Night of Gyros is back as an eight days long celebration of video and sound art, experimental film and music and architecture - taking over fields, rocks, old farm buildings, workshops and ruins of the island. The weather in February is stormy and not many people can travel for the festival, but if arrived - unable to escape
After PAPAY GYRO NIGHTS programme is "farmed" on the small island (where only 70 inhabitants and brave participants and visitors can see it) - it's travelling
At our first PAPAY GYRO NIGHTS event
in Aberdeen we'll be sharing the experience of work in remote places, presenting a selection of works from 2014, launching 2015 programme and meeting new collegues and audience to discuss the future collborations

All at once aesthetic and existential touches Rikke Benborg's film at some fundamental emotions. The film takes us into an unreal, blue-green room, a dream universe in which the boundary between sleep and waking are blurred - and where you can not escape. |

an audiovisualisation, where the same data and process generate both the sound and the moving image without either one following the other as seen in most VJ practice and visualisations. Movements and patterns that are seen can also be heard and vice versa, with visual shape, screen location and speed corresponding to audio timbre, panning and pitch. |
