Oh Gwyneth Paltrow
Supreme Being
Teach us to not
Upset the water
I want to be like you
Oh perfect One
And not to break down the molecular structure
Vibrio Fischeri
Who glows in the dark
And taught us that bacteria
Talk to one another
Let us pray for friendly Gwyneth’s way
And now
Wash our hands
Communication amongst bacteria was discovered in Squids with bioluminescent properties. In Eurymna Scolopes it is used as camouflage in moonlight, under water.
"Bobtail squid have a symbiotic relationship with bioluminescent bacteria (Vibrio fischeri), which inhabit a special light organ in the squid's mantle. The bacteria are fed a sugar and amino acid solution by the squid and in return hide the squid's silhouette when viewed from below by matching the amount of light hitting the top of the mantle. The organ contains filters which may alter the wavelength of luminescence closer to that of down welling moonlight and starlight; a lens with biochemical similarities to the squid's eye to diffuse the bacterial luminescence; and a reflector which directs the light ventrally" (McFall-Ngai, M.J. (1999). "Consequences of evolving with bacterial symbionts: Insights from the Squid-Vibrio Associations")
I am fascinated by science and the hope we place in it to solve our problems. This piece was inspired by the Biochemist Jesper Hoffmeyer and his work that ”examines the semiotics of living nature, from the origin of life with its self-organizing code-duality in evolution and development, to the complex endosemiosis of living bodies, to the ‘semiotic niches’ in ecosystems, and the species-specific peculiarities of human semiosis, such as language” (from Wikipedia)
The soundtrack is made by British electronica band Octavcat. It is influenced by the film “Close Encounters of the Third kind” by Steven Spielberg where Aliens communicate with humans by a five musical notes.

I am interested in the gap between a subjective perception and the idea about an ultimate objective experience and worldview.
Video is the tool for me to decode the continuous altering perception of the external world.
I work with associations, fragmentation and layers of meaning where a lot has a founding in medical research, film and literature.
By applying short depth of field, point- of view- camera, cropped frames and focus on small objects and surfaces, I make a self-centered world.
Each video work has its own visual theme, and I write text and music as narration.
After finishing an MA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art (2004) I have exhibited widely in Norway and abroad. Amongst other ‘LIGHTS ON- Norwegian Contemporary art’ (2008) at Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art (Oslo) and Beers.Lambert Contemporary Award Exhibition 2013 (London) where I won a prize for video. I currently live in Oslo, Norway.
